All day, all around us, people do things that inspire us. I am not talking about athletes, or celebrities or all those big name gurus, although they inspire us too. I`m talking about the everyday acts of people all around us who do things in an uncommon way. They can be very simple things, like offering produce from there garden, or offering to walk out dog while we are out, or helping someone else cross a busy street. Many of the little act of kindness most of us engage in everyday qualify for inspiration.
I think we can all agree that we all need more inspiration in our lives; that more inspiration would lift this world up, lift the spirits of all humanity.
My suggestion is to thank people who inspire you each day. Make an effort to tell one person they inspired you everyday and you begin to change the world at a very grass roots level.
Yes we need the grand inspirations... the flights of human courage or achievement in the face of enormous odds...new inventions, grand uplifting movies and music and writing and poetry, but we also need those little every day moments that touch our lives so completely.
As an example: I was on the treadmill at the gym the other day, and right beside me was another fellow you reved up and started to run.
I thought, " let me see how long I can keep up with him."
And I did for the longest time. I broke by a long stretch my own record. So as I was getting off the treadmill, I leaned toward him and thanked him for inspiring me today...and explained that just by being their and running he inspired me to run my best distance yet.
He laughed and said, "Your welcome."
I bet very few people have ever told him that, and for very little reason. It's not like he was doing anything really out of the ordinary, but had that treadmill been empty I know I would not have run as far.
This week make a special effort to thank someone for inspiring you. "Thank you for inspiring me today." Watch the reaction and report back here. I'd love to hear you feed back and how you did.
