The crowd roars as you round third base. It's the bottom of the 9th vs. the Yankees in the third game of the World Series, and you just hit the winning home run. Or, the music is playing a light drum roll as you hear your name called out, "the new Miss America is...". These are just a few of the basic day dreams we all have in our lifetime. These dreams have happened to a few, but never to all of us. We all dream of having great moments, great relationships, great careers, and great successes in life. But often, our dreams are just dreams, never to be realized and only to be found collecting dust in a corner somewhere. Why does that happen to most of us?
Sometimes we get so caught up in our everyday lives that we forget our dreams. But life could be so much better if we just aim a little higher and set goals. Setting goals is not as difficult as you might think. Don't get hung up with negative thinking, and feeling it might be too difficult or impossible. We all live and work with people like that, and sometimes maybe it's you.
Scientists have always been puzzled by the bumblebee. Theoretically, they said it couldn't fly. However, nobody ever told the bumblebee. So it flies. I remember a saying that goes like this, "If you think you can't, you won't. If you think you can, you will". If you don't have goals set in place, your likelihood of reaching them are next to zero. Any great athlete, musician, author, or business person can tell you that.
You can improve the quality of your life each day by setting small and attainable goals that you can reach. Set small stepping stone type goals for big projects so it doesn't seem impossible. Setting and reaching these small goals gives you more confidence, and you keep moving forward to your larger dream. Many of today's most successful people follow this simple goal setting rule. If you eliminate the small everyday ones, you will begin to find yourself ridden with self-doubt and your larger dream will seem like it's a helium filled balloon that you just let go and can't catch.
As you set your daily tasks and accomplish them, you will start to figure out that the goals you thought were impossible suddenly become easier to accomplish. And the impossible goal that was once just a dream, becomes possible after all.
