SEO Ranking is All About Presence

In just over six months I have been able to attract significant traffic to my websites and achieve # 1 page rankings just by following basic principles.

Presence is about being seen by the search engines, presence translates into high rankings and visitor traffic.  You can now learn how to do this for yourself by reading this blog.

The information is presented using an HTML website example.

The inside scoop!

People LOVE to look at pictures and “local” content. If you don't use pictures you can use other hooks to create interest. Alternatives to pictures are provided in this blog. However, the same principles outlined here can applied to all website content.

I have previously talked about pictures in my blog comments and go into it in some detail on my goo.gl/46Fqz Facebook fan page.

Do a Google search for images on my website using the following site: prefix like so site:http://www.in2clicks.com and you will find some 117 resulting images.

There are at least 12 pictures with a #1 ranking on page #1 in their categories. This comes about because of a few factors.  Depending on your location ranking results may differ slightly.

My “Port Isaac” picture garners 22,000 impressions per month because people like it, not because it’s a particularly good picture. Clicking on the picture provides access to additional pictures and information.

A picture must resonate with the people who are looking for pictures in context with their Google search.

A well composed picture with interesting content is more important than the quality. Many of my most popular pictures have been taken with an inexpensive pocket camera.

Size matters, “they say a picture equals a thousand words” and therefore the lager the picture the more information is provided.

Webmasters have been conditioned to use only small pictures on their websites and therefore larger pictures have a premium and Google loves large pictures!

Having a number of search engine listed pictures that create a presence in similar areas helps to gain ranking.

The following is what I have found through experience.

How to make SEO work for you:

Table style scripts using thumbnail pictures should be avoided . Web page slide shows are nice but add no SEO value to your web page.

Below is the script that I use to embed pictures into my web pages.

Note that the search engine will find the “img src” image which I have added as a 1000px by 700px picture.

The picture is displayed on the web page at the size defined in the script like so: width: 150px; height: 100px; and you can use an “href=”http://picture.jpg” link type script to open the picture in another window. I have chosen to use a java fix sized pop up window.

Example code:

<div style="margin-left: 12%; width: 530px;" >

<a href="javascript:B6popUp('pictures/Kyoto/Kyoto Heian-jingu shrine-22b.jpg')"><img src="pictures/Kyoto/Kyoto Heian-jingu shrine-22b.jpg" title="Kyoto Heian-jingu Shrine" style="border: 0px solid ; width: 150px; height: 100px;" alt="Kyoto Heian-jingu Shrine" hspace="10" vspace="10" /></a>

</div>

Note: alt="Kyoto Heian-jingu Shrine" text must always be added with the title="Kyoto Heian-jingu Shrine" text. This is critical for having the search engine find the picture!

Also note: that the picture text contains a number of keywords(tags) “Kyoto, Heian-jingu, Shrine” with a long tailed keyword "Kyoto Heian-jingu Shrine"

The Google search engine will have different search results for the different keyword permutations.

This is important because website presence is multiplied by the number of times that these keywords are found in different permutations

Google checks for pictures under Kyoto, Heian-jingu, Heian-jingu Shrine, Heian-jingu Shrine Kyoto etc. and therefore the same picture containing text with multiple keywords will be added under many search engine search categories.

This will increase the chances of a high ranking in "a category", attract attention and consequently improves ranking in more competitive main stream categories.

External links to other websites containing the same keywords added into a web page add conformation of  the importance of the web page.

Using different font types for keywords and adding them into different web page areas adds to the keyword presence.

Tip: Reversing your long tailed keyword with another similar picture is good practice.
<img src="pictures/Kyoto/Heian-jingu shrine-Kyoto-65b.jpg" title="Heian-jingu Shrine Kyoto"

I market the SEOPressor for Wordpress on my www.wordpress-seopressor-sales.com website because I believe that it is the most efficient cost effective way to manage keyword optimization.

My www.in2clicks.com website Kyoto web page is ranked #4 on page #1 when searching for “Kyoto historic capital of Japan”.

This is how to gain high rankings:

Include the search engine page description where you wish your web page to be found for example “Kyoto historic capital of Japan” into the <head><title> description.

Tip: If you are using a web page header picture always add an “alt” description with the important keywords into the picture text.

Fully utilize header meta name description and keyword areas to add you keywords in the order of their importance. The description should include a full title with as many keywords as possible.  Add as many keywords as possible, the limit is 1000.

Read my previous SEO blog for a tool that can help you check your keywords on your published website.

Tip: There is a common misconception that Google no longer uses this header meta data keywords to evaluate web pages.

Only have one web page “h1” header title text.  Be careful to check your website theme or template for this because these commonly use multiple “h1” header text which is incorrect.

The  “h1” title must include the most important keyword which in my case is “Kyoto”.

Web page content should include repeated  keywords as many times as possible.

It's important to understand:

Search engines LOVE new content and look for high ranking keywords(Tags) in the context of a web page framework and content types(video, pictures, Google maps, external links)  which are used by search engines to define the importance of the contents of a web page.

The first thing the search engine sees when it comes across my Kyoto web page is “keyword candy” in the header description, a  ‘juicy”  meta description and keywords followed by a large header picture with “alt” text key words. It’s then hooked with the “h1” and content keywords.

My pictures because of their size and relevance are quickly included into Google’s image listings and are immediately ranked highly because they cover a wide cross section of supporting keywords.

People searching the web for information look for pictures because it's quick for them to evaluate(just a few seconds) as being of sufficient interest to merit closer examination.

Pictures that evoke people’s inner feelings about places and events. Good pictures will have them returning many times to look at the same picture. High ranking pictures combined with attractive website content translates into high ranking web pages.

My Kyoto web page is currently ranked as the # 4 web page on the #1 page in its category.

My brand has come about because of the presence of my easily remembered domain name in commonly searched areas.

Tip: To gain a high ranking in a competitive high traffic category, pick the surrounding less competitive areas to dominate.  Your presence in these areas will help you to become #1 in the highly competitive categories.

Be careful:

Check your keyword content and website readiness before submitting you site to the search engines. My previous blogs identify tools that can be used to make this easy.

Generate a sitemap.xml file and robot text file and submit them to Google.  Update the sitemap.xml each time you make changes to you website pages.

Be careful that the information that you submit to Google is correct. An error could cause the loss of many weeks of traffic.

Summary:

Using pictures as a hook to create traffic has it's advantages.

Other methods can be applied like YouTube videos, or using Google AdWords can be a very cost effective way of getting initial traffic going to a new site.

The basic structural keyword principles that I have provided still apply to all websites.

The search engine category for example “Kyoto historic capital of Japan” where your website is to rank highly should be included in the HTML <head><title> description. It's found in the top part of the web page head text. Also the "h1" title text should contain all, or at least the most important keywords in the category.

Meta "keywords" and "content" are HTML file <head> script entries for the content that is the same as are  added into wordpress Categories and Tags.

If a web page has a broad appeal and uses a wide selection of appropriate keywords(Tags) it should ensure that the web page is included in many Google searches.

Creating a broad presence on the web will bring about a high ranking for search engine categories.

I very much appreciate the comments that I have received for my previous blogs. Please continue to add your comments.
